Can websites like yahoo and google read the contents of peoples emails; and will they? I ask because i value my legall privacy rights and dont want anyone looking at my emails without my say so.

Of course they can read your mail if it’s not encrypted. And most importantly, stay away from yahoo, microsoft, google etc if you are planning to buy something on the darkweb – they are all known to cooperate fully with law enforcement.
If you do want to send mail, get yourself an email adress from a privacy and security minded organization like Torguard or protonmail. And protect yourself with an operating system like Tails or Whonix!

you’re kidding right? of course they’re did unless you’re not using PGP encrypted communication. Get Debian and configure own SMTP/POP3 server for higher privacy and you can also start using Veracrypt solutions.
